Stinky Feet

Foot odor is a fairly common and embarrassing problem that affects many people. It can interfere with your social interactions and cause low self-esteem. Many people who suffer from foot odor are constantly worried about taking their shoes off in the presence of other people.

The good news is that you can get rid of foot odor with proper care of your feet and taking measures to ensure the problem does not recur.

Foot Care Associate’s Recipe for Foot Hygiene:

1.  Get to the root cause of your foot odor problems. The best way to get rid of foot odor is to identify the cause and then take the appropriate steps to remedy the odor problem. Causes of foot odor include fungal or bacterial infections and sweating. Fungal infections like athletes foot can be treated using over-the-counter products like anti-fungal creams and sprays. This should always include disinfection of your shoes by using products that you can place inside the shoe. Here at Foot Care Associates, we use a variety of shoe disinfection techniques including at- home ultra violet light shoe trees.

2. Invest time in your feet. Feet are sometimes ignored during the whole grooming process because they are mostly covered in footwear. Clean your feet well, making sure to get rid of dead skin, a contributing factor of foot odor. Get rid of any dirt under your toenails and keep them well-trimmed and short to avoid toenail infections.

3.  Use a home remedy to eliminate the foot odor. Dr. John Guiliana recommends soaking your feet in four parts of water mixed with one part of vinegar. Alternatively, you can soak your feet in strong, brewed and cooled black tea for about half an hour daily. Add essential oils like lavender or rose water to leave your feet with a pleasant smell. For excessive perspiration, occasionally special topical products are needed to dehydrate the sweat glands.

4. Air your feet at every opportunity you get. Moisture on the feet from sweating is a breeding ground for bacteria that causes foot odor. Limit wearing shoes and socks to the times when you really need to.

5. Always check with our doctors before initiation any foot treatments if you are a diabetic.

With this being said, Foot Care Associates is located in Hackettstown, Blairstown, Landing, and Washington for your convenience to get rid of that stinky smell that lingers on your feet for two long.
