Knicks Star Out With Broken Foot

New York Knicks fans here in Hackettstown, NJ may be hurting a little bit as league veteran Rasheed Wallace is out for the regular season with a broken foot.  Wallace had been out since December 13th because of a stress reaction in his left foot. It appears that Wallace has broken his fifth metatarsal in his foot—the bone that runs back from the pinkie toe toward the heel, also called a "Jones fracture" — and the fracture will require surgical repair.  While he is expected to make a full recovery this injury in only a predicted 8 weeks, sources are unsure of whether Rasheed, 38, will ever play in the league again.  After leaving the Celtics in 2010, Wallace was retired for two years before signed with the Knicks in 2012.

There are two types of foot fractures: stress fractures and general bone fractures. Stress fractures usually occur in the bones of the forefoot extending from the toes to the middle of the foot. Stress fractures are like tiny cracks in the bone surface. They can happen with sudden increases in exercise (such as running or walking for longer distances or times), improper training techniques, or a change in surfaces. One way to avoid fractures in your feet is to ensure that you are wearing proper shoes and foot support in all situations.

Here at Foot Care Associates, P.C. in Hackettstown, we are fully equipped for injuries such as Rasheed’s.  With an in-office digital x-ray machine and access to Hackettstown Regional Medical Center to perform surgeries.  Common symptoms for any type of foot fracture includes: pain, swelling, and sometimes bruising. If at any time you suspect that you may have a foot fracture, be sure to call our office at 908-852-0229 to schedule an emergency visit.
